Cross Border Network has, since September, 2016 supported the Garcia Zelaya family seeking asylum after their father and husband was assassinated in March, 2016. The family were members of COPINH (Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras) involved in helping a group of poor farmers keep land that was being stolen by a corrupt mayor. The mother and four children were forced to flee after the MS13 gang member who killed Nelson Garcia was arrested, and the gang threatened them with death, but the government failed to protect them. CBN has hosted them, found resources for them and helped build their case.
